REASONS TO REFER
CONSULTANTS AND HOSPITAL HAND THERAPISTS
If you have private patients who travel long distances to urban hospital centres in Belfast, Craigavon or Dublin, you can now give them the option to access Hand Therapy locally for pre or post-operative care, or for regular treatment for progressive conditions that affect hand function.

We can work with you as part of your multidisciplinary team so your patients can have seamless, excellent care without travel or anxiety issues concerning busy clinics and time needed off work. We have a flexible appointment system so that attending our appointments is made easier including out of hours appointments if needed.

We can implement your own treatment protocol preferences and send you update reports so you can monitor your patients' progress and make adjustments to the treatment model when needed.

Our self-management and hand trauma rehabilitation programmes are regulated by HCPC and CORU. Our service could be made available to you immediately and either be introduced onsite directly in your Clinic/Medical Centre or via our offsite clinics.

Contact our Business Development team for more information and to discuss your needs and preferences.

PRIVATE GPS AND MEDICAL CENTRES
Providing access for your patients to a specialist Hand Therapy service for progressive or traumatic conditions of the upper limb would have an immediately beneficial effect on your Medical Centre outcomes by providing timely, best practice non-surgical treatment without long waiting lists.

Our self-management and hand trauma rehabilitation programmes are regulated by HCPC and CORU. This service could be made available to you immediately and either be introduced onsite directly in your GP clinic/Medical Centre or via our offsite clinics.

DENTISTS
There are many health conditions that impact oral health that can be treated by Hand Kinetics. For example, people with Rheumatoid Arthritis and other connective tissue disorders are already at higher risk of gum inflammation (Gingivitis) and gum disease (Periodontitis) but the associated loss of finger dexterity and strength in hand joints can also lead to poor brushing technique exacerbating the problem. The poor brushing technique is due to difficulty experienced in grasping or using cleaning tools such as brushes, tooth paste tubes and dental floss. Narrow tooth brush handles and brushes with inflexible heads can cause additional challenges for these patients. Conversely, improving oral health has been found to improve symptoms like joint pain and stiffness for RA sufferers.

MS, Stroke, Parkinson's and hand trauma patients can also have difficulty maintaining their oral hygiene because of sensory loss or restricted hand movement.

On referral, Hand Kinetics can conduct a complete functional assessment to measure your patient's ability to perform routine oral hygiene. We can enable them to improve their brushing technique using modified grip techniques, built up handles and customised equipment and strength and stamina programmes.

If you require further information on how we can help your patients, please contact Hand Kinetics and one of our specialist therapists will be happy to advise you.
PRIVATE PHYSIOTHERAPY
Hand Kinetics can accept referrals from Physiotherapists for those patient's requiring complex upper limb splint fabrication, advice on small aids or joint protection and energy conservation techniques.

If you have a patient with upper limb nerve damage (Radial or Ulnar nerve palsy or CTS), increased tone (CVA), abnormal hand postures (Parkinson's), or loss of motor function (MS), then Hand Kinetics can help you provide your patient with a total care package. If needed, our therapists can attend your own clinic for a joint assessment and team-based treatment planning.

HOSPITAL AND COMMUNITY BASED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS
Hand Kinetics can accept referrals for Hand Therapy. We do not perform home visits however or make any recommendations for home alterations.

As some of our patients may require a home assessment, Hand Kinetics will send a recommendation to your service for consideration if needed.

If you require assistance or advice on any mater relating to upper limb rehabilitation, contact Hand Kinetics and one of our specialist therapists can provide support.

CORPORATE EMPLOYERS
Many occupations present a high risk for Work Related Upper Limb Disorders (WRULDs) including trauma and RSI in particular. Best practice employers provide health and safety advice to their employees and wellness programmes to prevent injury and provide early, appropriate treatment. These practices minimise costs to the employer and enhance employee loyalty and performance.

Hand Kinetics recognises that there is a gap in the services available to companies for WRULDs which we can provide. For example, as part of your employee wellness programme we can provide screening services to identify early signs of RSI and provide the appropriate treatment to avoid long term injury and absence. This can be done remotely or onsite as a pop up Hand Therapy clinic.

As part of a workplace clinic, we can also provide advice on modifying activities and equipment where we see an injury liability which will complement your workplace risk assessments. Where an injury has already occurred, we can provide rapid access to treatment including splint fabrication and exercise programmes which enable your employees to continue to work during the recovery period as much as possible.
