ATTENDING YOUR APPOINTMENT

You will be greeted by your therapist in relaxing surroundings and refreshments are available for you. Ample parking is provided at the clinic door for your convenience.

We want you to feel comfortable and relaxed so please feel free to bring a support person or family member to accompany you.

At your first visit, please bring with you any information you may have about your arm or hand problem:

• Referral (if you have one)
• X-ray or ultrasound scan reports if available

REGISTRATION AND CONSENT

Your assessment at Hand Kinetics and any reports form part of your medical records, so this information will be kept private and confidential. Your consent is required before treatment can begin.

Your therapist may ask for your permission to send a report to another health professional if it will help you.

The information you give includes contact details and health information which allows us to treat you safely. It will also include details about how you found Hand Kinetics, who referred you and who your GP or Consultant is.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?

An initial assessment will take 45mins to 1 hour, sometimes longer.

At the end of the session you should have a good understanding of the nature of your hand or arm problem, what you need to do about it and how we can help you with appropriate treatment. We should establish some achievable goals during this time that are realistic and timely. It may be possible to treat your condition right away, or, if it is more complex, a follow-up appointment may be needed.

Subsequent treatments may take up to half an hour, more if you need splinting. Our therapists have a high level of splinting skills and extensive knowledge of anatomy and bio-mechanics to craft an effective and comfortable hand orthosis.
